When
we talk about Andria, we should not think only of the strictly
urban area; indeed, if we want to appreciate this city which is
so rich from the historical and cultural poin of view, we cannot
leave apart the profound relationship existing between the urban
area and rural one.
The
latter is characterised by the presence of olive groves and vineyards
which produce excellent extravergine olive-oil and delicious
D.O.C. wines.
From
the artistic point of view, the Castel del Monte represents
an historical monument of extraordinary value; in 1996 U.N.E.S.C.O.
declared it "Patrimonio dell'Umanita'" (part of the
world heritage). The castle, the masserie, jazzi,
cappelle rurali, laure basiliane have passed on
from carlier generations. In the same way superb mansions and
beautyful churches recall to mind the rich past of a city which
is orientated towards the future. Andria is a reality with a precise
cultural identity which aims to keep on prospering, by guaranting
the good quality of life for inhabitans and tourists.
Other
tangible elements referring to our past, based also upon a rural
tradition, are represented by the so called muretti a secco
which marked the streches covered by shepherds during the transhumance.
Therefore, our territory provides a wide range of historical,
cultural and natural itineraries capable of enchanting our guests.
Here, visitors can decide whether embarking on a journey through
history (by admiring our monuments) or entering a religious dimension
(by visiting our churches); they have also the opportunity to
come into contact with an unaltered rural landscape which, especially
in spring and summer is theatre of natural spectacles; by admiring
the wonders of the territory, our guests can also taste the delicious
and natural foods of our excellent traditional gastronomy.
