The
Murgia is rich of niches providing the conditions in which many
species can live successfully.
Amphibions,
reptiles, birds and mammals populate this area.
ANPHIBIONS
= toads, frogs;
REPTILES = lizards, geckos, vipers;
MAMMALS = foxes, stone-martens, hedgehogs, hares;
BIRDS = owls, tawny owl white owls, ravens, hoopoes,
quails, larks and robins.
Also
insects populate this rural area; Crickets, grasshoppers, butterflies,
coleoptera, wasps, hornets providing the food for predatory birds
and mammals; maintaining in this way a complex and balanced ecosystem.
The
so called Naumanni hawk is the most representative exponent
of the fauna populating the Murgia. This predatory bird
hunts its prey in the rural area but nests in the urban one.
